Wine for women who do extraordinary things, every day.

Why we love Global Drink Wine Day

For several years now, across the USA there has been a day dedicated to celebrating wine. Isn’t that every day, we asked ourselves, but no.  The date celebrated annually is February 18th. The official website states that  “The purpose of National Drink Wine Day is to spread the love and health benefits of wine.  Wine has played an important role in history, religion and relationships.  We embrace the positive benefits of wine such as new friends, reduced risk of heart disease and the enhancement of food and life.”  Well OK then.

So why should this only be a day that is celebrated in the USA?  Across the world, people of all nationalities enjoy wine and its health benefits. Don’t you agree? Luckily for us, Wine Lover and Blogger Casey,  The Travelling Corkscrew has taken up the mantle and decided that February 18th should henceforth be declared #GlobalDrinkWineDay

We wholeheartedly support this initiative. Any excuse, right? After all, there are so many reasons to love wine.  However, in celebration of what could be our favourite new national holiday (do you think we could lobby for a day off?), we share five reasons why we love #GlobalDrinkWineDay.

1. It is officially OK to drink wine before noon.

Yes we did say before noon and that means that you can absolutely enjoy a drop with breakfast on this day.  Breakfast food is a fantastic match for wine. Scrambled eggs mixed with salmon and Bubbles is an absolute treat. So go on, this is the one day that you can match your eggs and vino with zero guilt.

2. It’s a day to be young at heart

Betty White is ninety-three years old and boy does she look fantastic. It is well documented that red wine can help you keep young so we say on this day, do something to fight the ageing process and get the girls around. It may not stop the ageing process instantly but it will certainly make you feel young at heart as you spend time with people you love who make you laugh. That’s just as good in our books.

3. It’s great motivation for the working week

OK, wine costs money. We all know that. It’s important to set goals and achieve them.  So looking at it another way,  wine in a way makes us productive members of society. We work hard. We juggle lots of things and so if we choose to reward our efforts with a glass of wine, then isn’t that a good goal to have for the working week?

4. It’s a great excuse to get out of our comfort zone.

We firmly believe “Drink what you love and you will love what you drink.” However, a day that celebrates wine is a fantastic excuse to challenge your taste buds and try some wines that you may not usually try. You could celebrate it with the girlfriends and host a wine tasting and have some extra fun. Get your friends to bring around a bottle of something they love. You’ll probably find that no two people will bring the same wine and so begins a magical journey of discovery.

5. Because it’s #GlobalDrinkWineDay

Forget reasons 1-4, this is the only reason we really need to love February 18th for ever more. A day that celebrates wine is well, a day worth celebrating. So Cheers, we hope you will celebrate February 18th and all the wine love it brings. We know we certainly will!
